Plant fibres
Why measure. Textile hemp is returning in France and Europe, but spinners need a regular, fine enough fibre. A measured figure helps you choose a variety, adjust retting or scutching, and support the quality of a batch with a buyer.
Who it is for. Hemp growers and cooperatives, hemp processors and scutching mills, spinners, laboratories and researchers, textile designers and brands.
What we measure. The diameter of technical fibre bundles with the OFDA2000: mean, standard deviation, coefficient of variation, distribution. We do not measure length, strength or the fibre content of straw.
How it works. 1. Order and choose the report language. 2. Send your numbered samples with the order. 3. We prepare and measure each sample. 4. You receive the PDF report by email.
Frequently asked questions
Can you test straw? No. The fibre must be extracted (at least scutched).
Do you measure elementary fibres? No, technical fibre bundles. The more refined the fibre, the closer the result gets to elementary fibres.
Are your results standardised? There is no standard for hemp. We apply an in-house method derived from IWTO-47 and state it on every report.
Can I compare several retting trials? Yes, with the comparison option: a side-by-side summary in the same report.
Do you test other plant fibres? On request: please contact us before shipping.
Is this analysis linked to Fibre Herd? No. Fibre Herd is for animals; hemp analyses stay in your Fibre Lab account.
