Fibre testing

What each analysis includes

Analysis What you receive
Full fibre analysis

Measurements: 21 indicators on the whole staple (mean micron, SD, CV, CEM, comfort, curvature, length, fibre count), histogram and profile along the staple. Correction factor for your farm, Trim High ON (OFF as an expert option).

Report: PDF report per animal, results on Fibre Herd

Included at no extra cost: Species-specific advice, lot summary, fineness class

Simple fibre analysis

Measurements: Mean micron and fineness class, with the correction factor for your farm.

Report: Results downloadable from your account

Analysis on washed fibre

Measurements: Each sample washed individually, no correction factor, all fibres counted (Trim High OFF). The same 21 indicators, histogram and profile as the full analysis.

Report: PDF report per animal, results on Fibre Herd

Included at no extra cost: Species-specific advice, lot summary, fineness class

Yarn analysis

Measurements: Mean micron, SD, CV, comfort factor, spinning fineness, curvature and diameter histogram of the yarn tested.

Report: Results sent by e-mail

Fleece uniformity (3 points)

Measurements: Three samples from the same animal (shoulder, mid-side, rear): 17 measurements and fineness class per zone, then the 3 zones side by side (differences in mean micron, SD and comfort). Correction factor, Trim High ON.

Report: Dedicated uniformity report, results on Fibre Herd

Included at no extra cost: Histograms and profiles of the 3 zones

Plant fibre analysis

Measurements: Hemp or flax, scutched or refined: mean diameter, standard deviation, CV and histogram, measured with the OFDA2000.

Report: PDF report per sample, in the language of your choice

Included at no extra cost: Sample comparison, unlimited (from 2 samples in the same order)

Paid option for every analysis: "Return of my samples", €12 per order.

Your analysis in 3 steps

1. Order online

Choose the analysis, then the species, or the fibre for hemp and flax. Tick "Return of my samples" if you want them back.

2. Send your samples

In a paper bag, without tape or staples, one animal or one sample per bag, named and numbered. The guide explains how to take the sample.

3. Receive your PDF report

Within 1 to 2 weeks of receipt, up to 1 month during shearing season. What the report contains depends on the analysis: see the table above.

Why these packing instructions?

  • Paper envelope or bag: paper lets the sample adjust to the temperature and humidity of the testing room. The OFDA 2000 corrects for temperature and humidity, provided the fibres are at the same temperature and humidity as the room at the time of testing: this is what makes the results accurate.
  • No staples: so nobody gets hurt when opening it.
  • No tape: fibres would stick to the tape when opened.
  • One labelled envelope per sample: animal's name or number, to avoid mix-ups.
